The Brothers Marine Park
Dolphin corridor | North Lantau waters | Designated 2016 | ~970 Hectares
The Brothers Marine Park is one of Hong Kong's newer marine protected areas, located in the waters between northern Lantau and the western islands. Its size may be small, but its role is strategic: The Brothers Islands connect Sha Chau and Lung Kwu Chau Marine Park with North Lantau Marine Park, creating a sheltered corridor for Chinese white dolphins moving through busy Pearl River estuary waters.
Why it matters
Marine protected areas work best when they are connected, not isolated. The Brothers Marine Park serves as a linking piece, or a corridor that allows dolphins, fish, and other marine life to move between protected sites without crossing through heavily trafficked and unprotected waters. It shows that conservation is not just about drawing lines on a map, but about designing networks that work with animal movement.

Threats & management
Vessel traffic, underwater noise, and coastal development are constant pressures. The park's management restrictions help reduce disturbance.
