Why Freshwater Species Belong on a Marine Map
Hong Kong's sea does not begin at the shoreline. It begins in the hills, where the streams that carry nutrients and sediment down to the coast, and in the wetlands that filter water before it reaches the ocean.
Freshwater species, such as the Romer's tree frog and the Hong Kong newt, are part of the same living system that sustains corals, seagrass, and dolphins. By including them on our map, we show that conservation is not about separate habitats, but about a single, connected landscape where water flows from mountain to sea.
By protecting the streams, and you can protect the shore.
